The North: Green and Special
If the South-west is sunny then the north is definitely green and certainly special. The region north of Arta is Mallorca`s second mountain range and has some spectacular scenery. It also has the thriving resort of Cala Millor with the longest sand beach on the island. The golf courses here are grouped in a small area making travel between them easier. They have some of the best greens and fairways so perhaps there is a little less sun up here. CANYAMEL a very good course of two halves, one hilly with a bird's eye view of the coast and one flat but neither easy. More information about Canyamel PULA accuracy is needed here to avoid the many water hazards and odd ravine. At certain times of the year the club hosts weekly competitions open to visitors. A well known restaurant next to the clubhouse. More information about Pula Golf CAPDEPERA also known as Roca Viva this course is surrounded by hills and also has plenty of water to avoid. The Mallorcan style clubhouse is most attractive and the restaurant is of a high standard. More information about Capdepera ALCANADA is Mallorca's only 'true' links course, situated on the coast just north of the Port of Alcudia.The course was opened in 2003 and is designed by Robert Trent Jones and he set out to achieve a course with "easy bogeys and difficult pars" - he succeeded. Not a course for beginners. More information about Alcanada POLLENSA is a nine hole course which is hilly with narrow fairways and plenty of bunkers ... but it does have some great views overlooking the Medierranean. Opened in 1986, the course was originally designed by José Ganvedo, but has been re-designed in recent years by Mike Pinner, a member of the Jack Nicklaus design team. More information about Pollensa SON SERVERA is another nine hole course, situated just north of Cala Millor at Costa de los Pinos. Opened in 1967 it is the second oldest course in Mallorca and is one that calls for accurate drives off the tee as many of the holes are narrow and tree-lined. It has a large contingent of British members and the clubhouse has a warm and friendly atmosphere. More information about Son Servera VALL D'OR is more on the East, rather than the north of Mallorca. It is only a 10 minute drive from the popular resort of Cala d'Or. The course opened in 1985 as a nine hole course but was extended to 18 in 1993. At just over 5,500 metres it is not a particularly long course and it gives the high handicap players the opportunity to get a decent score. More information about Vall d'Or |
